My advice to my owners by Rosie...Thursday 24th April

See how many of these statements apply to you - this does to my owner..

* You believe every dog is a lap dog.

* If you are cold, you put a sweater on your dog.

* You have a picture of your dog in your wallet, but not one of your kids.

* You often claim that it was love at first sight with you and your dog.

* You have your dog talk to your friends on the phone.

* You can't fully enjoy yourself without your dog.

* No matter how large your bed is, it is not large enough for you and your dog(s).

* You spend more on clothes and food for your dog than you do for yourself.

* You have no reservations about kissing your dog on the lips, even when you know where his lips have been.

* You believe it is your duty to talk to, pat, and even feed every dog in the neighborhood. You know their names.

* You let the neighbor's dog sleep over.

* You believe there is no such thing as a naughty dog.

* Your vet and grooming bills exceed your rent.

* When you need someone to talk to, your dog is your first choice.

* You sit on the floor if the dog got in the chair first.

* You talk to your dog when you are driving. He answers.

* Your dog taught you to fetch and roll over.

Add any more you feel my owners require.....

Tuesday 22nd April 2008

Had a good start to the week been out for walks and ended up going to a new part of the river the last two nights. This is a good walk for me, woods and loads of small hills to run up and down and of course the river.
We have had a sort out in my room, no sofa? no big wooden thing that holds the dishes? But a new set of chairs and a table, where will I sit then???? The cat loves me and we are good friends - I think!

Did a spot of gardening today, much to the suprise of owner Brian as he thought he had moved everything - now he has!! Great fun had by - well me really. He was most upset at having to brush up the soil.

Well a good day today, went over to other side of the river and had a great walk, not just once but twice. This evening a dog attacked me and I did get a fright, this other dog had a right go at me and give me a right nip in a few places. Owner Brian rescued me and I am fine!

Played in the big room tonight for a bit and drank some wine from a glass. Went to bed early!!!

Holiday Week

Been a funny sort of week, owner Brian and Clare both off together....we have been for loads of walks and today went to Amble, Cresswell and other places in the car. Chased seagulls, found a dead fish and caused mayhem every where I visited. Great fun!

Wednesday 9 April 2008

Wednesday 9th April, 2008

Had a quiet last two days, owner Clare is away and owner Brian is in the house by himself. Out for walks as per normal and then lying around after a play. Owner Clare came back today and brought me lots of treats. a new collar and a new lead, The lead allows me to run a bit further and then pulls me back, Great fun!

Me and the cat (Georgie) are getting on well these days, not great friends, but getting there. Owner Clare has made a right old fuss of me and it was lovely. Lots of talk about next week when they are both off on holiday, lots of trips in the car........

Sunday 6th April 2008

Up bright and early today, down to river as per usual. Cold and frosty, we were down here yesterday and I chased sticks, rabbits and people. Owner Brian was throwing one stick and I got in the way- boy did I yelp! He was very sorry and I got a big hug from all around me. Soon recovered and was chasing everything that moved as per usual.......

April 2008
Snowed heavy here at 12.00 noon. Had a nap ready for the next walk. I have been playing with most of my toys and generally causing mayhem, so a good day really.

Friday 4th April 2008

My gifts arrived today from Rosewood, two lovely dog toys, one called mister twister, the other called chubleez, these were a gift for using my photo on their marketing stuff. Owner Brian e-mailed Amy and thanked her for me!

Have been out for a walk along river as per usual, going over the other side after lunch as it is lovely and sunny at the moment. Open top car outing a must!
Photos taken down the river also. See this link....

Had a great time down the river and I am now going to play with my new toys.....

April 3rd Joke of the week

Talented Dog A local business was looking for office help. They put a sign in the window, stating the following: "HELP WANTED. Must be able to type, must be good with a computer and must be bilingual. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer."

A short time afterwards, a dog trotted up to the window, saw the sign and went inside. He looked at the receptionist and wagged his tail, then walked over to the sign, looked at it and whined.
Getting the idea, the receptionist got the office manager. The office manager looked at the dog and was surprised, to say the least. However, the dog looked determined, so he lead him into the office. Inside, the dog jumped up on the chair and stared at the manager.

The manager said "I can't hire you. The sign says you have to be able to type." The dog jumped down, went to the typewriter and proceeded to type out a perfect letter. He took out the page and trotted over to the manager and gave it to him, then jumped back on the chair.

The manager was stunned, but then told the dog "the sign says you have to be good with a computer." The dog jumped down again and went to the computer. The dog proceeded to enter and execute a perfect program, that worked flawlessly the first time.

By this time the manager was totally dumb-founded! He looked at the dog and said "I realize that you are a very intelligent dog and have some interesting abilities. However, I *still* can't give you the job."

The dog jumped down and went to a copy of the sign and put his paw on the sentences that told about being an Equal Opportunity Employer. The manager said "yes, but the sign *also* says that you have to be bilingual."

The dog looked at the manager calmly and said, "Meow!"

Tuesday 1st April 2008

Had a couple of quiet days, owner Brian has received a letter from a company he sent my profile photo to, we did not win the competition but they want to use my photograph as publicity and I get a lovely prize. How cool is that!

Been out to the river a few times and generally had a good time. Caught a rabbit tonight by the old tree, I think it was already dead as owner Brian asked me what the hell I was doing with it ......what is hell???

Cant wait to get my gift....

Sunday 30th March 2008

Had a lie in today as the clocks went forward last night so I have lost an hours sleep! Down to river, no rabbits today as you have to be earlier to get them.

Very nice morning, warm but raining. The stick throwing hill is still full of sheep. Out after lunch, nice and sunny. Owner Clare in at 6pm from work, we went out later tonight and went a new route, up to the roundabout near the a69. Nice new walk.

Bed early tonight as both owners have not coped with the change of hours.

Saturday 29th March 2008

Had a long lie in today, Owners not up until 9am....unheard of! I was still asleep when the doors were open. Went over to the other side of the river today, was great chased sticks, dogs and other people. Very sunny day and we are going out later in sports car for a drive according to owner Clare.

I have spent most of the morning on the decking lying in the warm sun today. Went to Whitley Bay at lunchtime! Had a ball in the sea and on the beach. Had a long walk around this huge white thing which had a massive light at the top.

Photos taken by owner Brian, you can see these at http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/brianharrison.org/RosieWhitleyBayAndBeach

Friday 28th March 2008

My new revised rules.

1) No gardening

1a) No peeing on carpet - reintroduced from Wednesday night

2) No teasing the cat

3) No jumping up on the leather sofas.

4) No X box or games ever!

I was out at 6.30am this morning, owner Brian was up and ready to go very early I thought. The rabbits were in great form I just missed out on two by the river. Slept till lunch time then out with owner Clare.

In cage as they are both out, we might be moving to a new house soon! More to come later. The cat and me were quite friendly today, she even let me lick her.

Dog Joke of the week

Dog Joke of the week

A butcher in his shop, and he's real busy, and he notices a dog in the shop. He shoos him away. But later, he notices the dog is back again. So he goes over to the dog, and notices he has a note in his mouth. He takes the note, and it reads "Can I have 12 sausages and a leg of lamb, please. The dog has money in his mouth, as well." The butcher looks inside and, lo and behold, there is a ten pound note there. So he takes the money, and puts the sausages and lamb in a bag, placing it in the dog's mouth. The butcher is well impressed, and since it's close to closing time, he decides to shut up shop and follow the dog. So off he goes.

The dog is walking down the street, when he comes to a level crossing. The dog puts down the bag, jumps up and presses the button. Then he waits patiently, bag in mouth, for the lights to turn. They do, and he walks across the road, with the butcher following him all the way. The dog then comes to a bus stop, and starts looking at the timetable. The butcher is in awe at this stage. The dog checks out the times, and then sits on one of the seats provided. Along comes a bus. The dog walks around the front, looks at the number, and goes back to his seat. Another bus comes. Again the dog goes and looks at the number, notices it's the right bus, and climbs on. The butcher, by now open-mouthed, follows him onto the bus.

The bus travels through the town and out into the suburbs, the dog looking at the scenery. Eventually he gets up, and moves to the front of the bus. He stands on 2 back paws and pushes the button to stop the bus. Then he gets off, his groceries still in his mouth.

Well, dog and butcher are walking along the road, and then the dog turns into a house. He walks up the path, and drops the groceries on the step. Then he walks back down the path, takes a big run, and throws himself -Whap!- against the door. He goes back down the path, runs up to the door and -Whap!- throws himself against it again. There's no answer at the house, so the dog goes back down the path, jumps up on a narrow wall, and walks along the perimeter of the garden. He gets to the window, and beats his head against it several times, walks back, jumps off, and waits at the door.
The butcher watches as a big guy opens the door, and starts laying into the dog. Yelling and swearing at him. The butcher runs up, and stops the guy. "What the heck are you doing? That dog is a genius. He could be on TV, for heaven's sake!", to which the guy responds,

"Clever, my foot! This is the second time this week that he's forgotten his key."

Wednesday 26th March 2008

An early start this morning, 6.40am. Not as cold today either for the old paws. The river was full of bunnies!, and not one to be caught. Had a long run and met the lady with 2 dogs, bonny a scottie and another black dog - no name known or breed??? Bonnie is as excitable as me, now that is good news.

Had a lazy day till 3pm then out around river with both owners, someone has boarded up the gate to the stick throwing hill? Why and what are those white fluffy things in the field? Bah Bahhhh thats all they do. Not as quick as the rabbits I bet!

Was in sitting room for a short period but I wet on the carpet, never done that for yonks. Rule 1 reintroduced rapidly! I was sent into my room and no cuddles.
Took up the xbox tonight, well the game terminator which I really enjoyed chewing, the box, the cd and the instructions. They say these games are harmful to us young pups, there right, my bottom got a slap and I was sent to bed...... . I wonder what the playstation three games are like?????

Rule 5 introduced No X box or games

Out for last walk and hopefully a good sleep.

Tuesday 25th March 2008

Was out at 6.45am to the river today, frosty start but a lovely walk. You could see the whole of the river this morning, the sun was very bright.

When I came back I was put straight into the cage which is unusual, anyway they both went out today, again unusual. The day passed very slowly and I fell asleep for parts of it but in the cage....
Owner Clare came in later than expected, popped me outside, give me a cuddle, and then left again. Owner Brian came in and took me out to the field by the river and we spent 20 minutes stick collecting. Was let into the big room and ate my bone.Georgie was in good form and even let me lick her, result!

Out last thing then bed. I need to work out the following,

How to bring back more sticks
How to make friends with other dogs

Until next time.

Easter Monday March 25th 2008

Was up nice and early today and we went straight to the river, it was a frosty morning and the rabbits were out in force today. As soon as I got to the gate where I am allowed off my lead, I ran to the very bottom of the river. Great fun......

Came back and tried to eat the cats breakfast, she was not amused. Sat in sun and ate my ham bone.....great start to the day. My owner is using a machine to steam clean the carpets and floors, the cat must be a very messy animal? I sat on the sofa and howled most of the time, its like the hoover with steam.....

Going for a walk later so must get some play and sleeptime before that. I have also rearranged my bedding outside of the cage for a change. May be a rule coming here I feel as someone will need to put it back at some point today! This has been put back with no word...hmmm!

Went for car ride up to the Roman Wall after lunch, cold and windy but it is the first time I have been on the military road. Owner Brian put the top down on the way back, I just lay there in the sun with the wind whistling around me.

At the river tonight I have a new trick, I get more and more excited each time the stick is thrown, I now bark for the sticks to be thrown for me.! I also carried one large stick all the way home, this is a first for me. Met another dog called Rosie today, how weird is that we are both collies and both dogs.

Easter Sunday

It has been snowing and the ground was freezing under my paws. Was out at 8am today and we went around the river, we were the only ones there except for some rabbits which I could not catch.

When I came back radio 6 was on in my room, we have tried magic and heart channels but BBC 6 seems to be the one that they have chosen for me to listen too when they are out.
Lay in the sun for a bit before they both went out. I was in the living room tonight for an hour and ate my bone. If I am really good I will be allowed in Monday evening as well. Owner Clare at work, so owner Brian took me for last walk around the village. The cat took a swipe but missed as we went out......I am much faster these days.....

Came home and was ready for bed. I have had a tiring day and will sleep well tonight. The cat was not allowed upstairs tonight.

March 22nd 2008

I have a new ham bone as a treat, I have also been allowed pigs ears and those nice tesco dentistix. I can eat a whole one in 5 minutes. I will need a new collar soon - I am already using a new leader with a chain, I was chewing the red one given by the shelter! This did not turn into a rule as they quickly realised if it was metal I would not chew it.

Some of the old rules have gone now, Rules 1,2 and 3 are all but extinct and I am praised often for this by my owners. I am also allowed in the big room as long as I dont jump up on the leather sofas. My new set of rules read like this.

1) No gardening
2) No jumping up
3) No teasing the cat
4) No jumping up on the leather sofas.

March 2008

Been a busy month, walked for miles and miles and can now nearly catch rabbits at the river. Done a couple of photoshoots with my owner.
I have a new set of images at this link.
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/brianharrison.org/Rosiemarch09th2008

I did catch a rabbit and my owner was mortified, I did lead him a dance for twenty minutes and he had to take advice from owner Clare on what to do. He used his black plastic device and she spoke to me direct. I let go and was put on the leader. I know where it is for future visits. I still get quite excited and jump up at people on my walks.

Rule number 5 was introduced today. Do not jump up!

The month of February 2008

Friday I was made bionic! I can been found anywhere in the world with this new chip in the back of my neck, a short pain then I was done. Given a treat by Carey - lovely. Has the cat been done and why not????
Met the wonderful Georgie on a few occasions by the back door, she swiped me on the nose, on the ear and on the head. This happened a lot over the next few days - then she started to ignore me. I wont let her as I want to play.....Been busy gardening most of this month, my owner non to pleased as they have had to move all the plant pots up onto the back wall. I was quite pleased with my efforts, they were not. Rule 4 has been introduced.
1) dont pee on the carpet
2) dont pooh on the carpet
3) dont eat the carpet!
4) dont garden New rule
I have also been trained to sit, beg, lie down and heard a new word from owner Clare called "Enough Rosie", this is used when I get to excited and have a bit of a chew on their arms and legs...... No pleasing them sometimes. I am still considered cute though.

I am getting bigger and stronger each week, I love the river walks - I am going three times a day with both owners and love it. Each morning I am out before seven and walk the full length of the river. Owner Clare sometimes takes me in the jeep to the other side of the river for a different walk. I love it!!! I have a walk at 1pm then at 4pm depending on their shifts. Last walk at night and then treats all around.I am famous and have been filmed with a video camera by my owners. They love it when I chase sticks, I dont bring them back very often - much to their annoyance.

Been sitting on the sofa with the cat, she does not have a good sense of humour, but very sharp claws. I tease her but now know when to retreat. A good month for all - I need to find a new hobby as gardening is now totally disallowed.
Been visited by Sean and friends a lot this month, Max also goes to the toilet outside but does not use a poo bag???? Weird eh!

The Vets visit

Went to visit Carey today, the place was full of other animals, I sat on my owners knee and did not move once!
We went into a small room and it was full of chemicals and smelt like the cat and dog shelter. I was checked over and given a clean bill of health, whatever that means. I am going to be bionic on Friday as I will have my own chip - not sure wht that means but it has to be done. Cost my owner £20 for worming stuff and general once over. I have had all of my injections at the last place so I am ready to go on the road! I do not have fleas, thats a relief I might add. Has the cat though? She needs to be brought here I feel..... and why do they call Carey - Scarey Carey.....???? She was lovely!

The first week

Loads has happened this week, I have been visited by many people who are part of my owners family. All agree I am cute! I get very excited on most days and have broken rule 1 and rule 2 on a few occasions.

They are not mad at me but they do think I should go outside to do this.

My owners have decided to move the small lounge and the dining room around as I can go straight outside if I need the toilet before walkies. Before this happened I had great fun with a toilet roll! I am also going to see Scarey Carey later this week ( she wears a white coat and fixes me when I go wrong apparently).

More on that later. Been for walks, met new friends and loads of other dogs at the river. No sign yet of the cat who I can still hear and smell. I have also taken lots of her toys and ate a lot of her food!

Changes January 16th 2008

Woke up today and had a walk, fed and was taken to the main office at 1pm. There was lots of activity and I was pushed into a pet carrier which smelt of a cat. There was a small blue towel in the bottom and then I was locked in.
This human (now I know as my owner called Brian), talked to the ladies who had cared for me and I was carried away from the noise of the main buildings. They gave me a tag with my new address on, a red collar and red lead, plus an owners pack with my book of injections that I have had.
Ah no more barking and I can see grass and trees and a car! I was placed on the front seat while this human talked to me - saying how lovely I was. I did not cry at this point - good for me.
We started to move and it was quite good I thought. This human (my new owner) started to talk to another human on a black small piece of plastic. This piece of plastic spoke back and I was so shocked a howled quite loudly. (I wil do this a lot over the next few weeks - they will soon get the message that they speak to me first).
We are driving for 30 minutes and then we pull up outside a massive building and another human ( called Clare) comes to see me. She smells of flowers, he does not!
She is at work and will see me later. I wonder why???? They both say how lovely I am.....

We stopped outside a blue door with a number 1 at the top of it. As we went in I could smell the cat (Who I now know is called Georgie). I was carried into a room which had a training cage in the corner. I was allowed out of the small carrying device and I had a good look around. My cage has a red blanket, which matches my new collar and lead, and lots of toys and things to chew.
I was given a set of rules as I wondered about the room.
1) dont pee on the carpet
2) dont pooh on the carpet
3) dont eat the carpet!
The golden rules I had to live by. I was given lots of cuddles and had my new name tag on my collar. They have kept my old name of Rosie, thats good as I like it!!!!! I am not wanted for any crime but I had my picture taken anyway, this was sent to other people by the plastic device. I wonder why that happens.
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/brianharrison.org/Rosie
Click above for some of my first photographs.....

After my tea, the human called Clare arrived at the house. She came in and gave me a big cuddle. I am very cute!!! I must remind them of this term, may come in handy when I eat/chew the carpet!
Went for a walk, well sort of I was carried over the road and pulled for 50 yards to the grass. Then I was let off my leash, boy was that fun, I ran for ages. For some reason my owner had a roll of small black bags, these come everywhere with me for some reason.
Had my first wee and then a poo by the river, the human placed my poo in the black bag and carried it with us while I walked!!! What is going on I wonder...... Ah the roll of black bags have a purpose now I see.
The bag was placed in a small bin by the river.
I had a good day today and I am tired, I fell asleep in the cage in the room I first arrived in. No barking, no noise, but I know there is a cat around as I can hear and smell her.

The Beginning January 13th 2008

I was born according to my book in November 2007, my dad was a collie and my mum a cross ( but cross with what I hear you ask), I dont know actually.
I went to live with some people but they could not cope with my lifestyle, so I ended up in Newcastle cat and dog shelter. God it was noisy and I was very frightened at the barking all day and all night long.
I was in a huge cage surrounded by other large hairy dogs, all makes and all different. I hope I am not here to long......
